I tend to give slaves petnames, instead of calling them slaves. These names can range from skittlicker, puffsnuffelaar, pup, lamb, human toiletpaper to "simply" calling them my boys.

Now the boy remark is absolutely geared towards gender. And not meant in any other way. However, regarding the history of that particular word in the context of slavery,  the horrible history of my people and the fact that i am very, very white, i was wondering; am I being to callous about a word that maybe means nothing to me,  but can have such negative connotation to others.

I would like to hear from POC how they experience this. I would greatly appreciate it if they want to take the time and energy to write down how they feel. (Or not feel)

I am writing this blog with respect to a culture that is not mine, so i try and tread lightly. This means I might moderate responses from people this blog is not written about, to keep things respectfull.

In advance,

Thank you for your time.

mitboy, no it is not. I can see how you thought that though. However I feel this is not a fitting place for that discussion.

^_^ My blog kinda is though. The yearly discussion in the Netherlands is too. Systemic racism is never nót serious. (Not saying this in a blaming way towards you personally, just moderating the comments.)
